Engagement Session at the Rose Gardens | So green!!!

June has been a weird month of weather but I have loved seeing how green everything is!! It wasn’t that long ago when everything was drab and brown. The new life of Spring has arrived!!! This energetic and lush engagement session at the rose gardens is one for the books! Maura and Scott are so fun! Rival sports teams to name one fun thing! They were troopers with my random photo prompts and seriously I had a blast capturing these two. It was a really great night and I’m so looking forward to their June wedding next year! The very last picture has to be my favorite. That sun was just showing off and I couldn’t help but stop them every few feet. The rose garden has so many great sweet spots during golden hour.

The few pictures I included of Maura and Scott standing on the paved sidewalk are some of my favs too. There was an opening to the sky in the middle of the dark area where we were standing and it gave the affect of studio lighting. I loved how it illuminated them and only them! Ok and the ones where Scott is staring at Maura at the stone wall are my favs too. Seriously guys, they killed it.

Anniversary Session at FA Seiberling Nature Realm | Holly + Austin

Oh my gosh these two! It was so fun to meet Holly + Austin, hang out together on a perfect evening, and enjoy the park searching for that glowy light. There are so many good ones and it was hard for me to delete any!! Holly’s dress was PERFECT for this session and I can’t believe it’s from Amazon! Come on, it’s amazing!

I have to make note of Austin’s beard because it’s awesome. I definitely got some cute shots of him nuzzling Holly with it haha!

Also, my friend Nate came along with us which made the session even more fun. Thanks for keeping me on my toes Nate! He’s got a great site with awesome landscape photos. Hop over to his corner of the internet and check out his talent. I’m always up for people will to shadow a session. It’s the only way to learn portrait photography.

Anniversary sessions are the real deal. I highly recommend you book one today!! It is so fun, with a relaxed setting, just making memories. An Entertaining June Wedding in Youngstown Ohio | Ford Nature Center

I’m so excited to share the highlights from Kelly + Joe’s entertaining June wedding. It was an awesome day full of fun and surprises! If you haven’t seen their engagement pictures, you need to! It was an awesome sunset at a special place near Lake Erie.

Beautiful weather

I was prepared for rain and even made some arrangements in my head of photo spots to go to if it was going to rain. We were so fortunate to actually have an amazing weather day. The rain held off until after dark and we were able to enjoy the sunshine!

Bridal Details

The dusty blues and greys were really pretty and I loved Kelly’s dress! The lace detail and her veil together made it look flawless. Kelly’s first look that she did with her dad made everyone in the room cry. It was so precious and I’m so glad Kelly wanted to do that. It was a special moment. Joe also gave a beautiful gift to his mom – super special. It is a blessing to have such a bond with your parents.

A photo spot you’ll for sure want to visit!

After a joyous ceremony we went to the Ford Nature Center for bridal portraits. It’s the perfect spot for a classic look. The stone wall is unique and not like anything else in Mill Creek. I would highly recommend this place for your next photo session.

Dinner & Dancing

The reception was so fun and it was entertaining to see Kelly and her dad, as well as Joe and his mom, do a choreographed jig. Both were awesome!! If only I had that much coordination to do a line dance!

Love how you look in photos | Photographer secrets shared

If you’ve ever gotten your picture taken by a photographer then you know that feeling of what you think you look like in your head and how the pictures actually look when you receive your gallery back. You know what I’m talking about? Are you ever disappointed with the outcome? Even if you have just a spec of vanity, we all like to look good in pictures. I don’t care who you are. You’ve done your research for Youngstown wedding photography, so of course the photos you’ve invested in matter.

via GIPHY

Perhaps you’ve had amazing experiences with a certain photographer and you wonder, how on earth they made you look and feel like a million bucks?! Like, you’re dying over these pictures! This is an amazing feeling and it takes a lot of talent to pull this off. There are so many talented business owners in the Youngstown wedding photography realm. There is a reason they are set apart from any other photographer wanting to be hired.

Love the way you look

So what makes the photos you love stand out compared to the ones you didn’t love? Do you think it’s the posing, your genuine laugh, the way your curves are accentuated? Or how about the way your man looks with his arms around you? Is there a secret to this talent of successful pictures? Yes! I’m about to share some secret tips I’ve learned over the last 5 years. There are certain ways to say things when photographing a couple that will make you love the way you look in photos.

End goal?

So what’s the point of all this? A photographer’s end goal (at least for me) is to make sure you have fun, enjoy the experience, find great light/composition for the photos, and that you absolutely love how you look from start to finish.

5 secrets you need to know…

1) First up: Confidence.

This is huge and foundational to any photo session. We want you to feel comfortable and relaxed in your own skin but also confident. You look and feeling amazing and now it’s time to bring that out in your photos. The first thing I say when we start a photo session is that it is not normal to get your picture taken. Most people are not professional models and have zero training on how to pose for the camera. And that’s OK!! I’m here to build up your confidence and make you feel like you can do any advanced pose out there. How else do I build up that confidence? I keep reminding you that you are killing it! No one can show affection like you can for your spouse/fiance. You cannot mess up your session. It’s impossible!

2) Next is: Hips.

This one is mostly for the ladies. A lot of times the different poses I set you up in are just variations of how your hips are positioned. You could be facing your fiance, facing away and leaning on them, side by side hips, or your hips are perpendicular to theirs. Strategically, I try to accentuate those hips by having your leg that’s closest to me bent. This naturally allows your hips to pop towards the background (giving the effect of a smaller waist) and elongating your legs. If you’re thinking in your head this will feel so weird doing this. Yes, you’re right. Posing does feel weird but you will look better than you feel.

3) Now we’re moving on to shoulders.

This action is super easy but mind-blowingly awesome for that perfect picture. Sometimes I’ll ask the bride to open up her shoulders towards me like she’s the cover of a book. You’re snuggled up together, arms embracing each other, looking into your love’s eyes, I take that picture – gorgeous. I then ask you to look at me and smile. This is when I will sometimes have you open up your shoulders. Automatically this improves your posture, makes your waist look thinner, and elongates the neck.

There can be different variations thrown in here too. Maybe I’ll have the bride put her left hand up on her left shoulder to show off her new bling while her new hubby snuggles in to tell her a secret. If your posture was crouched, we wouldn’t necessarily see the detail on the bodice of your dress or your pretty collar bone. Opening up your shoulders is a sure way to boost your confidence and a fast track to advanced posing.

4) Next up: Prompts.

Prompts are awesome and recently have been trending with the ‘unposed’ style of photography. I really think prompts are a great way to start a conversation and to achieve a more comfortable experience for the couple. I use prompts after I set up the pose (for the most part) and then it allows genuine smiles and experiences to happen. One of my favorites is having the groom whisper his favorite vegetable in the bride’s ear in a SEXY voice. You literally cannot do this without someone laughing. Another favorite: hug her from behind and kiss her on the neck while you sound like cookie monster. Hands down, can’t go wrong with that one.

5) Shift that weight.

The last one is shifting your weight. I often ask the groom to stand with his hands in his pockets but then shift his weight onto one leg so he looks a bit more relaxed. If you’re an art history buff, you will know this term is called the contrapposto pose. The statue of David is the number one example for this. This shift in weight will make you feel more comfortable in front of the camera and pairs really well with your bride standing next to you holding onto your arm.

Do you feel like you’ve been educated a bit? I hope so! I my goal is to ultimately allow you to have the best experience possible with your photographer. Understanding how we do things will only improve your experience which then produces gorgeous photos you’ll love for years to come.

Keep Your Memories Organized | Nolan is ONE

Keep Your Memories Organized

Today I’m sharing 5 easy things you can do to keep your memories organized. Also, some cute pics of my baby bear, Nolan.

Nolan is ONE

Our handsome man Nolan turned one at the beginning of January! I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do for his 12 month pictures and decided to do what I did with Gwen. What kid doesn’t love a bath in the kitchen sink?! But first some smash cake pics!

one year old smash cake lindsey yeagley photoone year old smash cake lindsey yeagley photoone year old smash cake lindsey yeagley photo

Kitchen Sink Bath

He loved the bubbles, splashing me and Gwen, and making a mess haha! I can’t believe he’s already one! His birthday was a weird January day – it was warm like Spring and we took a walk outside because I couldn’t resist. The day he was born was the complete opposite of that. It was a bad ice storm and school was closed.

Blooming Personalities

Nolan has the warmest eyes both big and brown. The softest eye lashes that I love so much and an adorable smile with about 5 or so teeth. He is for sure a mama’s boy and is definitely more introverted than his sister. Gwen and Nolan are almost at a good stage as far as playing together. There are blurts of moments where there is peace in the house and everyone is pleasantly playing together. But most of the time someone is screaming, pulling, biting the other. We’re a work in progress over here.

5 things to keep track of for memory’s sake:

1. Weekly pictures – print them at the end of the year at Artifact Uprising or Parabo Press
2. Quarterly themed photoshoots (Here’s my favorite of Gwen’s)
3. Buy a cheap calendar and write down milestones and memories
4. Create a shared album on Google Photos to share with family members who don’t see your kiddos often
5. Designate a storage container for each kid – keep your absolute favorite crafts/drawings etc.

These are just a few things I thought of that I did for both kids. After having Nolan, it is much harder to remember to write things down or keep a system organized. I tried to keep things simple and I’m not the type of person to keep everything. I certainly don’t photograph everything and genuinely do enjoy just being in the moment. A lot of times people think photographers are always documenting their children. It’s not an entirely true statement. I just choose to use my big camera for specific things or just a few pictures and then put it away to enjoy the rest of the day.

Hopefully you’ll be able to implement your own systems when it comes to recording memories and writing down those milestones. I don’t know if it’s because I’m tired all the time or if it just happens when you’re a mom but I forget everything. So I know I want to remember this chapter of my life when my babies are babies and I know a simplified system is the best method for me. What are ways that you record memories?

Rent a facility for a party | Lake and Mahoning County

January is over?!

It’s the end of January which means life in the Yeagley house can finally slow down. We go from Thanksgiving and Christmas to two birthdays right in a row. Both of my kids have January birthdays and it made the first month of the year a bit more hectic.

I wanted to share some pictures from two recent parties that we had in the last few weeks. My parents hosted Christmas at Lake Erie Bluffs and we had Nolan’s first birthday party at Bears Den Cabin in Mill Creek Park.

Rent a unique space

Have you ever had to rent a facility for a party? I can say that both of my recent experiences were great! With Nolan having a winter birthday it is hard to host a big party at our house. Their first birthday is always a big deal so it’s more than our normal family get together total. I knew I wanted it somewhere unique but not huge and bland where it would feel like a gym.

Bears Den Cabin (Mill Creek Park)

Bears Den Cabin was exactly what I was looking for and went along perfectly with my Baby Bear theme. The cabin is a part of Mill Creek Park and the park has a few other rental options for smaller parties. Bears Den had a full kitchen, well heated, gas fireplace, and seating for 40 people. They just got brand new chairs and tables in there which was a perk for us because we weren’t expecting that!

Tips to remember if you’re renting a facility for a party:

1. Bring extra trash bags, dish towels, cleaning supplies
2. Don’t forget your serving utensils!
3. Bring Tupperware you’re ok to part with to send extra goodies/food home with your guests.
4. Play soft music on a bluetooth speaker to keep that party vibe going
5. Bring a rug for little ones to play/crawl on
6. Have a few space heaters handy just in case to alleviate some of the cold (if it’s a winter party)

Lake Erie Bluffs (Cleveland Area)

Lake Erie Bluffs is a really unique venue. It is an indoor/outdoor type of building with garage doors that surround the building. A fireplace is the centerpiece of the lodge and the view of the lake is the icing on the cake. We had our Christmas dinner there so we couldn’t take advantage of the garage doors being open but I have heard that there have been some great parties there in the summer. It would be a great spot for a graduation party or a small wedding reception. The sun sets over Lake Erie so I could see a late summer night being the perfect setting for a summer wedding.

The facility is open to the public so everyone is welcome to come in and enjoy the fireplace. It is also a good spot for family photos if you have little ones that can’t be out in the cold for too long. We were worried it wouldn’t be warm enough in there but the fireplace was more than enough to heat the entire space.

I mention a bit more detail about renting the Lariccia Community Center in this post. It’s located at Boardman Park. Overall, I would definitely rent a facility for a party again. In my opinion it allows me to be more creative with how I want to do things whether it be decorate or what’s on the menu. A con of not having it at your house is that you have to bring everything with you. Maybe a bonus tip should be…have your hubby come later to help setup so that if you forget something you can call him 🙂
