Generations Coffee House

Since I was introduced to the Columbiana Wine Fest committee, I’ve had the opportunity to try new places, hang out, and take pictures. A new favorite place of mine is Generations Coffee in Columbiana, Ohio. I love coffee. And good coffee. In the past year I’ve taken an interest in more authentic ways to brew coffee, different types of coffee, and watching YouTube videos on how the “coffee nerds” do it. My younger brother Garren has gone from “yes, I drink coffee everyday & I like it black” to “I own everything I would need to open up a small coffee shop.” He has officially crossed over to the “coffee nerd” line & I’m so proud! He scoffs at Keurig users (sorry Mom). I’m glad we both share a love for the dark, roasty, spicy, and robust little beans.

I grew tired of Starbucks and how expensive it is (plus, everyone in Youngstown is obsessed with Dunkin Donuts, bleh) and was intrigued by new ways to enjoy coffee at home. Not only does it save money but I now crave coffee that is brewed from my pour over or now, my aeropress instead of coffee purchased elsewhere. I will say I did embarrass myself recently & I’m blaming it on the fact that I have not crossed over to the “coffee nerd” side yet. I ordered a “caramel macchiato” (thinking of how Starbucks does it) but actually a three ounce shot of espresso with a “mark of milk” is what macchiato means. Not what Starbucks makes. Thank you, Starbucks for the embarrassment. Lesson learned.

Back to Generations. It is such a great place. Something I think the community has been lacking. The vibe there is just great. It’s nice knowing I don’t have to own a Mac, have earbuds in my ear, and wear a beanie to sit in there & enjoy a latte while “getting work done.” Garren wears beanies. Ha. I’ve seen people of all ages enjoying themselves there especially on Friday nights – live music! The past few Fridays we’ve gone it has been entertaining. And standing room only. Come early for a seat!

All in all, if you asked me to get together & have coffee, Starbucks is no longer my first choice. I will most definitely take you here & hope you love it just as much as I do. I am looking forward to many more visits to Generations and I’m so thankful for a place like this to finally show up in our area.

Ps. If you want to enjoy the “caramel macchiato” drink, then order a caramel, vanilla latte. Delish.
